Spring is here, so are the April showers and the Annual Awards Dinner.
Months in the planning, we finally find ourselves at only a few weeks away from the Society’s flagship event, which is being held for the second year running at the East Midlands Conference Centre.
This year we will welcome over 440 guests, to celebrate the legal success of Nottinghamshire, a night that is guaranteed to be one of the best dinners ever!
Since writing my last news, we have held the John Pearce Quiz at the Southbank Bar, Friar Lane. A brilliant evening, with a great range of questions set by VHS Fletchers. The evening raised £1,172.00 for Emmanuel House. Thank you to everyone that supported the charity raffle. Congratulations to the winning team, ‘The Low Society’ led by Shilpa Shah and Abigail Scott from Ropewalk Chambers, we will look forward to your questions in 2025!
On Thursday 11th April, Lauren Crow, Stephen Luke and myself, attended a luncheon in Birmingham with many other local law societies of England and Wales. As part of my continued work to help other societies, the inaugural lunch at Malmaison, was well attended by CEO’s, Society Administrators, Presidents, and other office holders. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic lunch, as well as developing friendships and learning about how societies were working across the wider community.
This week, we have the final of the Hammond Cup, a great advocacy competition in its 58th year. Good luck to the four finalists, Dominic Parisutham from Ropewalk Chambers, Jemma Stanford from KCH Garden Square and Amelia Whyte and Christopher Grabowski, both from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Following the Annual Awards Dinner, we will welcome our members to attend the Society’s Annual General Meeting, which is being held on Tuesday 14th May, in the Chemistry Theatre, part of the Newton & Arkwright Building, Nottingham Trent University.
The AGM is free to attend and an excellent opportunity to learn about the Society’s business and meet Council members, sub-committee members and celebrate in the Society’s fundraising as we make many cheque presentations to the nominated charities. The AGM will see President, Stephen Luke, reflect over his presidential year and will also welcome the incoming President, currently Vice, Lauren Crow from MJC Law.
Until then, I look forward to seeing many of you at the Annual Awards Dinner later this month.
Best wishes,
Michelle Foster
