Radford Cup Cricket Match - NLS Solicitors 'v' NLS Barristers 2025

On Wednesday 6th August, the annual Radford Cricket Cup brought together solicitors and barristers for a spirited showdown at Regatta Way, Nottingham.

Team captains Aaron Singh (Solicitor) and Luc Chignell (Barrister) kicked things off with a handshake and coin toss. The barristers won and chose to bowl first, sending the solicitors in to bat.

Opening for the solicitors were Sam Jenkinson and Jak Ward, facing bowlers Jonathan Bide-Thomas and Callum Purcell. The match began steadily, but Sam was caught out after scoring 3 runs—ironically by Barrister captain Luc Chignell himself.

Next up was Solicitor captain Aaron Singh, who made an impressive start, racking up 27 runs off just 11 balls. The Purcell duo—Alex and Gregor—took over bowling duties, and Jak Ward was caught out after scoring 12 runs.

Shiv Nand joined the action as the teams swapped ends after 10 overs. Aaron retired with a solid 30 runs. Enter Joshua Ganley, sporting a memorable outfit—shorts that had everyone wondering if he’d forgotten his trousers!

Luc Chignell returned to bowl for the barristers, with Clarkson Baptiste at the wicket. Shiv was soon out, and George Neville stepped in to support Joshua, who retired after a strong 30 runs off 12 balls. Nirmel Trivedy came in briefly before the innings wrapped up at 18 overs, with the solicitors scoring 138 runs and losing 3 wickets.

The barristers then took to the crease with Clarkson Baptiste and Jonathan Cox opening. Alastair Rose and Joshua Ganley bowled, with James Sookias keeping wicket. Unfortunately, Jonathan Cox was out on the first ball, bringing Jonathan Bide-Thomas to the field.

The barristers kept the energy high with their usual banter—“Run, YOU NEED TO RUN!” echoed across the pitch. Clarkson was out after scoring 9 runs, and William Bennett stepped in, only to be caught out by Nirmel Trivedy.

Thomas Welshman came in as the teams switched ends at 10 overs. Vikky Lai and Kassra Powels took over bowling, and Thomas was caught out by Solicitor captain Aaron Singh. Jonathan Bide-Thomas retired after scoring 30 runs.

A flurry of quick outs followed, with Sam Lound, Richard Thatcher, and Alex Purcell all dismissed in rapid succession.

As the summer evening faded, the match concluded with the solicitors successfully defending their title and retaining the Radford Cup. Speeches from the captains, rounds of applause, and well-earned beers and pizza wrapped up another exciting edition of this fast-paced, competitive, and hilariously entertaining cricket match.

Here’s to next year’s game!
