Hello Autumn, and hello to a full diary of events, courses and meetings!
Since July, the office has been busy creating more seminars and events for our members to attend, from celebrating local ales, gins, and rum to Diwali. We have an event for everyone!
On Friday 28th July, I was invited to attend the NJLD Summer Soiree at Colwick Hall – what an amazing evening. I would like to say a huge thank you to NJLD Chair, Sadia Hussain and all the NJLD members for their hospitality and congratulations on running a fantastic evening, raising money for Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes. The evening’s guests were a mix from three organisations NJLD, RICS and NCASS, professional networking at its best!
On Saturday 29th July, the sun was shining on the Nottingham City Centre streets as we all marched for PRIDE #NottinghamTogether. The Equality and Diversity Committee working with our sponsors, put on an excellent event. Thank you to Browne Jacobson for providing the hearty breakfast buns, KCH Garden Square for the wonderful t-shirts and finally, Eversheds Sutherland and Ropewalk Chambers for the post walk drinks at the Angel.
In August, I met up with Eversheds Sutherlands Practice Group Support Manager, Ruth Hubbard and Amelia Bone. This was followed by a meeting with one of our Mansfield firms Fidler & Pepper in September, meeting with Matt Slade, Jade Cooley and Sally Callaghan-Wetton. Both meetings were very productive conversations on what Nottinghamshire Law Society offers to its member firms and individual members, as well as how you can become more involved with the various committees. As a result, we have seen more volunteers to be a part of the Equality and Diversity Committee.
I also accompanied Stephen Luke on a visit to Maggie's, the Presidential charity for this year. Nottinghamshire is very lucky to have Maggie’s in its city, providing invaluable support to those suffering from cancer and to their families. We are looking forward to working with the team at Maggie’s and raising a fantastic sum of money during the year and at the Annual Awards Dinner on Friday 26th April 2024.
Summer was full of cricket games, the first was NLS Solicitors ‘v’ Barristers held at Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club and the second was the ‘Battle of the A52’ against Derby and District Law Society. Both great games and very close to call at the end. Sadly, only one trophy was retained this summer, that being the Radford Cup. Derby won their game in true style at the Attenborough Cricket Ground. Over the summer, the NLS Cricket team has met three times, a fantastic group of players that are really passionate about representing their society and playing a mean game of cricket. Thank you to all those that participated and supported the matches – the support from the sidelines is just as important as the players!
On Wednesday 13th September, I was given the opportunity to present two sessions at The Law Society’s Local Law Societies online conference, one being on the power of social media and the second on sponsorship opportunities. The sessions were well attended with representatives from from over 40 local law societies from England and Wales. Nottinghamshire Law Society is currently providing a platform for law societies of England and Wales to come together, collaborate and share working practices, which is supported by The Law Society at Chancery Lane.
So what is happening next? We have the Real Ale, Gin & Rum Festival at the end of this month, please get booked into this amazing evening. It really is the perfect end to the working week! We have an amazing band booked, so the place should be rocking!
There is a Networking Lunch in Mansfield at the end of November, and on behalf of the Equality and Diversity committee, a Diwali Curry Evening at Mem Saab. All the information can be found on our events section of the website.
In the meantime, I look forward to stepping out across Nottinghamshire to meet more of our member firms and begin planning the 2024 diary!
Watch this space…
Best wishes,
