Michelle's News - March 2026

March is here already, and I must admit, I’m feeling a bit like the Mad March Hare myself—dashing excitedly between all the events we have coming up!

After a lovely and much‑needed half‑term break in North Yorkshire, it was straight back into things with the Private Client Committee’s networking evening at Pitcher & Piano on 26 February. It was such a great night, bringing together private client practitioners to chat about their work and to officially launch our very first Private Client and Family Law festival – Future Proof – taking place at Binks Yard on 4 June. We’re thrilled to have so many exhibitors joining us, including our festival sponsors, Cowens and Currency Connect, who will be sharing their knowledge on trust investments and international property matters in estate administration. We’ve also lined up some fantastic speakers covering a whole range of topics—from nuptials right through to inheritance tax planning!

The John Pearce Quiz is now fully booked, and we can’t wait to welcome our teams to Over The Road on Meadow Lane for the 2026 event. This year the quiz questions are being set by The Mountweazels from the University of Nottingham School of Law!

Then on Thursday 19 March, we’ll be hosting the first round of the Hammond Cup at Nottingham Law School. We’ve had a record number of entries again this year, which is wonderful to see. The competition really is something special and truly unique across England and Wales. As always, huge thanks to everyone who supports us and gives their time to help make it happen.

And of course, the next major date on our social calendar is the Annual Dinner at the East Midlands Conference Centre—our flagship celebration. Planning is already in full swing, and it’s always such a joy to bring this event together. It’s a chance to celebrate Nottinghamshire’s legal excellence while raising money for the President’s chosen charity, The Wolfpack Project.

As many of you will know, The Wolfpack Project is a Nottingham‑based charity supporting young people aged 16–35 who are affected by loneliness. We often imagine loneliness as something that affects older generations, but that really isn’t the case—and especially not during the Covid years, when so many young people found themselves isolated from their usual support networks

Our fundraising efforts stretch even further this year, with James Firman of Paragon Law lacing up his running shoes for the London Marathon. You can read more about James’s challenge in this month’s bulletinIf you’re able to sponsor James or help in any way with our fundraising, we would be so grateful.

We’ve also spotted a few more familiar faces on LinkedIn who are going to be running—including our very own cricket player, Joshua Ganley from Shakespeare Martineau, who’s running in support of The Laura Centre. We’re wishing all our marathon runners the very best of luck!

Member Benefits

Do keep an eye on your inbox for the latest member benefits. This month, Hemisphere in West Bridgford has some lovely offers and would be delighted to welcome you—especially if you’re planning something special for Mother’s Day.

And if you’re still on the hunt for a dress for the Annual Dinner, I can highly recommend a trip to Dress Me Up in Navenby. I was there just this Saturday admiring the latest gowns—they have some gorgeous pieces at brilliant prices!

Finally, as spring starts to peek through, Virgin Gym has extended an offer to our members too. If you’re feeling that seasonal nudge to boost your fitness, it might be the perfect time to give it a go.

Until next month, see you at something soon.
