May’s calendar was buzzing with events, beginning with the AGM and ending with a trip to Chancery Lane, before I jetted off to Sicily for a break!
Wednesday 17th May, was an extremely busy day, beginning with the Private Client Seminar on Crypto Currency with Louise Lane from Wright Vigar as the key presenter, followed by a presentation from sponsors Brewin Dolphin, with Helen George and Ian Cooper.

The sun shone down on over 100 walkers, all with one main intention to raise money for the Access for Justice Foundation. Lead walkers, President Stephen Luke, HHJ Dickinson KC, HHJ Coupland, Past President Janine McKinney and Under Sheriff Deborah Hutchinson, assembled outside the Magistrates Court, with all the walking teams and then they were off!
Thank you to Drew Dennis, Craig Sharples and Abbey Carroll for their time in planning the Nottingham Legal Walk. Huge thanks to Abbey Carroll for organising 15 members of the NTU LEX Law Society to assist with the stewarding!
We would like to thank BCL Legal for kindly sponsoring the post walk drinks, which were held at the Canal House.
Thursday 18th May, saw the Society’s cricket team celebrating the hat-trick of trophies won in the Summer of 2022. The evening began with team talk, and also saw the Society’s Cricket Captain, Kassra Powles hand over the captaincy bat to Aaron Singh. There are three cricket matches in the diary, the first one on the 6th July where the Society team takes on the Old Nottinghamians’ Society.
Then on Friday 19th May, the train was boarded and off to Chancery Lane for the Townhall Meeting of all local law societies of England and Wales, with Janine McKinney and Nottinghamshire’s Society representative, Shama Gupta. This was a very informative session, followed by a guided tour of Chancery Lane.
It was great to finally meet in person Valeria Mancheva, Valeria is the Head of Engagement and Services at The Law Society and we as a Society have been working closely with The Law Society on various webinars and townhall presentations.
You may have read in my earlier news bulletins that I have been leading sessions with other local law societies on various subject matters, helping them to grow their societies and providing valued support. The latest online session was on Friday 9th June, which discussed sponsorship opportunities.

Apart from the cricket fixtures, we have a social meeting scheduled for Newark. We are planning to sit outside in the relaxing terraced area of Ann Et Vin at the Newark Networking Lunch on Wednesday 12th July, for full event details visit:
We all know that June heralds PRIDE month, and it is great to be working collaboratively on the Nottingham PRIDE march with the Equality & Diversity Committee.
We would like to thank Browne Jacobson for offering to host the breakfast meeting, KCH Garden Square for sponsoring the PRIDE t-shirts and finally both Ropewalk Chambers and Eversheds Sutherland are sponsoring the post march drinks at the Angel.
It is great to work with everyone on such an important event. We are hoping there will be lots of our members walking behind our banner and alongside Alliance Network. If you would like to find out more about Nottingham PRIDE 2023, then simply click here!
It’s always great to visit our members, and May also saw a planning visit to KCH Garden Square and Hannah Scothern. On Wednesday 14th June, we are hosting a seminar with sponsors MARSH ‘Partner Oversight & SRA Update’ in the new committee room at KCH!
As we progress through the summer months, more events will be released, so watch this space and our social media shout outs on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
In the meantime, enjoy the sun whilst it shines, and I’ll catch up with you again next month.
