June was, as always, a whirlwind of activity—and just like that, we’re officially over halfway through 2025!
On 15th June, I had the honour of attending the King’s Birthday Service at the breathtaking Southwell Minster, joined by our Vice President, Drew Dennis. It was a moving celebration of His Majesty’s birthday, with touching tributes to the charities chosen by High Sheriff Ed Attenborough. As always it was lovely to meet up with Past Presidents, Deborah Hutchinson and Christine Doughty as well as Tom Huggon.
Just days later, on 18th June, we laced up our walking shoes for the annual Nottingham Legal Community Walk—this year in support of our very own Nottingham Law Centre pro bono clinic. Under glorious sunshine, we kicked off with some creative filming, assembling members to form “NLS 150” in celebration of our 150th Anniversary.
Dan Lambourne worked his magic with drone footage and captured members sharing their “three words” that define what makes Nottinghamshire Law Society so special and Jay Glenn took to the walk to capture the full experience around Nottingham. We can’t wait to share the video with you!
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised a phenomenal £2,658.35—and counting! The JustGiving page is still open, so if you haven’t donated yet, there’s still time to support this brilliant cause.
Local Law Societies from across England and Wales met online to share ideas on membership retention, event planning, and sponsorship strategies. It’s inspiring to see friendships and collaborations growing stronger, united by a shared mission: making local law societies matter.
I had the pleasure of attending Freeths’ Summer Party at Binks Yard, catching up with the wonderful Marie Cooper, Paige Gagic, Billy Shaw, and Jasmine Jackson.
We also hosted our first Compliance Breakfast Forum at Buckles Law—a big thank you to Laurence Howland and everyone who joined us! Keep an eye out for our next forum this autumn.
I had the privilege of meeting Mequissa Magloire, Rebecca Brookes, and Sima Khan from Ropewalk Chambers, who shared their unique and inspiring journeys into law and life at the Bar. We’ll be sharing their stories in a special article series this autumn—stay tuned!
A huge thank you to Naomi De Silva, Suki Tonks, and Sarah Woodward at Browne Jacobson for hosting the first-ever South Asian History Month Festival—a vibrant morning of music, dance, and street food. We hope this becomes a permanent fixture in our calendar!
On 5th July, I attended the Maggie’s Charity Mamma Mia Lunch at Cleaver & Wake. It’s always a joy to reconnect with the Maggie’s team and hear about the incredible work they do. With 120 people walking through their doors daily for cancer support, it’s heartwarming to know that the £15,000 raised during Stephen Luke’s presidency is helping keep those doors open.
We’ve been busy partnering with local businesses to bring you even more exclusive member benefits. Your digital membership cards should now be in your inbox! New offers include:

Know a local business that might want to join the scheme? Drop me a line!
Summer means cricket, sunshine, and planning for our autumn events—including the Big 150th Birthday Bash at The Shed on Friday 26th September. We’re throwing a mega Mamma Mia party, so grab your ticket and get your dancing shoes ready!
On that note, I will sign off and see you all again in September!
