Free personal injury law service offered as NLS Legal joins forces with Hodge Jones & Allen

Free personal injury advice is to be given to members of the community through a new collaboration between NLS Legal, Nottingham Law School's teaching law firm, and legal firm Hodge Jones & Allen.

Law students will be trained to work alongside qualified lawyers from Hodge Jones & Allen to offer an initial personal injury advice service primarily for people based in Nottinghamshire.

The partnership aims to raise awareness of people’s rights in relation to personal injury cases, as well as giving students further opportunity to gain real-world experience and training.

The majority of the advice will be offered remotely for quick access, with the option for clients to attend in person at NLS Legal to ensure the service is accessible to all.

NLS Legal is Nottingham Trent University’s on campus teaching law firm and was established as part of Nottingham Law School’s commitment to supporting access to justice and to delivering transformational legal education.

Laura Pinkney, head of NLS Legal, commented: "We are pleased to be working with Hodge Jones & Allen to expand our pro bono service. Our firms have a shared commitment to access to justice and we are delighted that Hodge Jones & Allen will be working with us to utilise their experience and expertise for the benefit of both our students and our community."

The partnership will be led at Hodge Jones & Allen by partner, Daniel Denton, who has represented personal injury claimants for over 20 years and has built a wealth of experience in handling cases including where individuals have suffered injuries from a road traffic crash, an accident at work, or in a public place. Sometimes the injuries sustained by Daniel’s clients have proved to be life-changing and so, along with gaining compensation, Daniel also works to arrange effective rehabilitation treatments and care to get people’s lives back on track.

Commenting on the new service, Daniel said: “HJA’s Personal Injury team are looking forward to working with NLS Legal. I have always been committed to helping people who may wish to pursue a personal injury claim and working alongside NLS Legal and the NLS students will provide added personal reward.

It is important to me that everyone has an accessible route to understanding their rights and to be able to gain justice. I am looking forward to meeting and working with law students who are committed to helping people understand personal injury law and what courses of action are open to them.”

Carlota González Láynez, practice manager at NLS Legal, said: “Working with Daniel and Hodge Jones & Allen will add another important arm to our pro bono services and provide our students access to and further understanding of personal injury law. We are pleased to be able to offer them a new project and a new area of law for them to develop their legal skills".
