Equality & Diversity Committee News - September 2023

We have recently appointed two new co-Chairs to the Equality and Diversity Committee.

After several successful years of being our current co-Chairs, Lauren Crow (MJC Law) and Lee Collishaw (Ropewalk Chambers) have handed over the baton and will remain as active members of the Committee going forward.

From today, the role of co-Chair will now be shared by Sarah Singh (Rotheras Solicitors) and Elliot Bedwell-Mintz (Landsmiths Solicitors).

Sarah is an NQ Solicitor specialising in Private Client work incorporating Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Estate Administration and Trusts. As a career changer coming into the profession with a background in equality & diversity work and legal & regulatory compliance, with an LLM in International Human Rights Law, Sarah is deeply committed to working to increase diversity and inclusion within the legal profession for the mutual benefit of clients, legal professionals and firms.

Elliot is a Senior Paralegal, who is currently undertaking his exams to become a Licensed Conveyancer. Elliot is passionate about bridging gaps for those who feel unrepresented in the legal profession and to ensuring that all firms, whatever their size, have access to the resources needed to understand and support their staff.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Lauren and Lee for their tireless work and dedication in leading the Committee over the last few years. During this time, they have been instrumental in organising many important events which have helped advance the goals of the Committee and have done so with great passion, alongside their incredibly busy work schedules.

The Equality and Diversity Committee will continue to work solidly towards achieving its goals of making working in Law within Nottinghamshire a more inclusive and equal place where all people can thrive, whatever their background.

Our work generally focuses on the equality strands detailed within the Equality Act 2010, including recognising how these rights intersect with one another. These strands are:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership
  • Pregnancy and Maternity
  • Race
  • Religion and Belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation

The Committee is also focused on increasing social mobility and to encompassing human rights principles into the legal profession.

Please do get in touch with us if you would like to become a member of the Committee and have ideas for how you would like to shape this important work going forward. We are always on the lookout for passionate people who want to help us achieve your goals!

If you are interested in finding out more, please email Sarah or Elliot and we will arrange a discussion with you
