Diwali day itself will be celebrated on October 20th 2025 across the UK. The festival will start on October 18th and last for 5 to 6 days (there will be a one-day interval on October 19th, 2025), and each day has diverse meanings.
Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. For Hindus, it commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, and also honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas to mark the release of Guru Hargobind, and Jains celebrate Lord Mahavira's attainment of enlightenment. The festival is marked by lighting diyas (oil lamps) and candles, fireworks, family gatherings, and prayers. It is a colourful affair, full of joy and celebrations.
Nottinghamshire Law Society holds an annual Diwali celebration meal for members and non-members. This year’s event will be held at the amazing Mem Saab restaurant on Thursday 23 October 2025 and the last few tickets are still up for grabs. It is a wonderful opportunity to break bread with each other, and we would absolutely love to see you there.
