As a paralegal, trainee solicitor or qualified solicitor with up to 5 years’ active practice, you are eligible to become a member of the Nottinghamshire Junior Lawyers Division (NJLD).

This new and exciting group was launched in October 2008 and replaces Nottinghamshire Trainee Solicitors Group and Nottinghamshire Young Solicitors Group.

The NJLD represents the interests of recently qualified solicitors, trainees, paralegals and LPC students on the Local Law Society, the National Junior Lawyers Division and throughout the local business community.

We aim to provide a social, networking and supportive roll for all young lawyers in the region.

Membership of the NJLD is open to young lawyers from all firms in Nottinghamshire. The committee itself spans a broad cross section from large commercial firms to smaller local firms and niche markets.

We organise a wide range of events for members throughout the year. These include:

  • The annual JLD Ball held in November
  • A programme of social events and drinks evenings across the County
  • The Hammond Cup, an advocacy competition for trainees
  •  Seminars and careers advice
  • CSR Opportunities
  • Judges shadowing scheme in County Court and Employment Tribunal
  • Work experience in Karlsrushe, Germany or Ghent, Belgium
  • Sporting events

Many of our events run with other local groups, including the RICS Matrics (surveyors) and NCASS (accountants), in order to create stronger relationships and networking opportunities with other professionals during our career development.

We also work closely with Nottinghamshire Law Society and often negotiate discounted rates for their events for our members. The work experience exchange programme is run through the Nottinghamshire Law Society with our twinned cities of Karlsruhe in Germany and Ghent in Belgium. These are all fantastic reasons to get involved in your NJLD.

The NJLD will continue to promote our city as a vibrant legal centre, offering a good quality of life for local lawyers, and will help the city’s young lawyers to cross network to other firms by promoting their own firm’s brand values.

Other benefits to joining the NJLD are:

  • TM Lewin corporate discounts
  • Reduced membership fee to the Gourmet Society
  • Discounts with other local businesses
  • CPD points for most of the seminars which the JLD organises

The annual membership fee for January to December 2010 is £20 per member. This will enable members to attend our events for free or at a reduced rate. This is a huge saving over the year.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR FIRM MAY HAVE A POLICY OF PAYING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION FEE**
