President's Cup 2013
President’s Cup 2013 – First Round Results
Judges from the Education and Training Committee have now chosen this year’s finalists for the President’s Cup 2013.
This year, the competition, open to junior lawyers, took inspiration from The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den and asked entrants for their law related business proposals or inventions. Entrants were awarded marks for their writing style, commercial insight, innovation and creative flair.
The judges were extremely impressed by the high standard of entries and the variety of ideas. It wasn’t an easy task, but the following people stood out and scored highly in all of the criteria:
• Paige Burley – a BPTC student at Nottingham Law School who has designed the App ‘Lex Appeal’ to assist dyslexia sufferers with legal jargon.
• Alex Chapman – a trainee at VHS Fletchers who pitched the idea of ‘Bar Maids’ – a business providing nannies for barristers(!) to improve morale amongst the Bar and, as a result, increase productivity and efficiency to save costs.
• Robert Northall – a trainee at Acton’s Solicitors who designed an App to assist litigants in person/unrepresented defendants called the Legal Aid Gap App (LAGA for short!)
