The
public often contact us for advice on how they can make a complaint against
their solicitor. We hope that the contents of this page will help your
understanding of how we can help.
When
we get involved
If
your complaint isn't dealt with to your satisfaction by your solicitor or by the
partner of the firm who deals with complaints, Nottinghamshire Law Society looks
to involve itself in some form of complaints handling where the complaint is against a Nottinghamshire law firm. Please note
that a complaint can only be made against your solicitor and not against one
acting for the other party.

Your
complaint must be about the service you have received from a solicitor, or about
their behaviour according to the professional rules governing solicitors or
both.

What
we cannot do
What
Nottinghamshire Law Society is not able to do is to give legal advice about your
complaint, or appoint a solicitor for you. We are also not able to investigate
complaints of professional negligence (negligence, in its legal meaning, is not
the same as poor service or misconduct, which is something that we can give
guidance on).

The
Society's principle objective is reconciliation, to enable solicitor and client
to complete the matter in hand.
The
Society does not have disciplinary powers.
The
Society does not have the power to award compensation or to adjust a solicitor's
bill.

We
are pleased to say that most complaints can be resolved and as such you are
invited to contact Mike Lewis who will
look to assist as possible.
This
support service is entirely free.
